The Magazine pages I got my inspiration from
My got the main idea for my front cover from a range of different magazines rather then just one. These are all posted on my blog previously.
For my contents page, i got my inspiration from this magazine:
And when i started making my double i realised that my idea was not very good at all, so i changed it completely at last minute, originally i thought of doing a VoxPop, however i decided that it was safer to do an interview from the new uprising star. I had the idea of doing a more modern format for the interview as i think that that is more likely to appeal to a wider age range, i found this one online and thought that it was a good one to develop because it wasn't too complicated, it was modern and i thought that it was visually attractive. This was the DPS i got my idea from:
And after doing a bit of research online, this is the list of questions and answers which i asked my friend Kate Miller, who wants to be an actress, what she would say if she was slowly becoming more famous:
I got the style of questions to ask from online real interviews. i think it was hard for kate to answer because she is not there yet as she is still just a student, however i let her think of what she would say if she was in that position. The questionnaire its self didn't take to long, it was writing up up which took the most time and confirming the order of the questions asked. I think as it was a last minute decision it did not take too much preparation, i just sat down with Kate and discussed it while taking notes, but wrote it up fully once i was home. |
InDesign Tutorial
After editing my pictures on PhotoShop, i then wanted to put together the pages in InDesign. I had never used this programme before (except from the basics i learnt in my primarly task) so i decided to do the same as what i did for photoshop and look on youtube to see if i could find any tutorials. This is the one which i found (please click here) and it really really helped me to get my way around InDeisgn.
Here are the basic tools I used on InDeisgn |
In this screen shot, i am using the font tool. I used this tool to edit anything to do with changing the font (size, for, direction, bold etc..) |
This is a screen shot of the move and place tool. I used this for whenever an object needed to be moved and replaced somewhere else. |

Photo Shoot Two
I needed to take another photo shoot for the contents page. As the audience is a range of people, i thought that it should be a younger person as the model, so i got my friend to pose by i brick wall, with her posing as a 'new uprising star'. I think that the photos are less unusual, however they are more likely to appeal to a younger audience, i also think that having a range of us usual photos and simpler photos is also better. The quality of the photos which i took are better as well which makes the photo standout within its self.
Photo Shop Tutorial
Because i only know the basics of photoshop, i think that there is a lot of work to do on my photos still so i thought the best way to learn about what to do was to get a tutorial. i thought that the best way to do this was to go on youtube and watch a video. The video which i thought helped me the most was this one. It is quite long however i showed me all the basic tools on what to do and how to do it to make my photos as best as possible.
The main tools that i used for my final pieces was
FRONT COVER: the clone tool for the main in the front cover. I also selected the eye and changed to colour to green to make it stand out more, and painted over parts of the face to enchant them, such as the nose and whitened the teeth. I sharpened and brought up the contrast on the overall picture.
CONTENTS PAGE:there was not a huge amount of photoshopping tools i used for the contents page. I brought up the contrast by going on 'adjustments' and 'curves' but that was the main editing i did for this photo.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD:for the double page spread i used the lasso tool and the magnetic tool to select her to het het her out of the background. I also again enchanted and brought up the curves of the photo.
This is a diagram of the tools which i mostly used. |

This is the magic wand tool. I used it a lot to select certain areas through similarities in colours. |
This is the curves tool which i also used a lot, i used it to change the contrast of the image. |
Photo Shoot One
This is the first photo shoot i took for the cover of my final piece. The photos look very strange, however i think that once photoshopped and placed at the back, they will look a bit better. I face painted my brothers face to make him look like a lion, to go in with the whole 'musicals' music idea.
