I looked at Q magazine because it is quite a mainstream magazine proved by having 'take that' on the front. The colour schemes are blue, white and black which is a common colour scheme to have, however a little but of bronze is added which breaks the 'rule' but this makes it look bolder and different to other magazines so would stand out on the shelf. The contents page is in a really simple, but effective layout with each page underlined with a red bar which makes it look neat and organised.
I also looked at another 'source' music magazine. This one has a wide shot photograph of well known celebrities which instantly attracts their fans. The colour scheme of this magazine is black, grey and a lime green. This is clearly not a common colour scheme but is really effective. The contents page has a large medium close up shop which breaks the organisation of the page as interferes with the neat box of writing.
This Mojo magazine has a completely different theme to the others above. It has more of a 'vintage' look which attracts people who are interested in older classic music. The mast head is being covered by the photograph as it is a well known magazine so instantly recognised. However from the parts of it we can see, it is in a simple unpretentious font. The obvious colour theme is blue, white and black with are all very bold colours. This is shown by the background being a pure colour. The close up of Bob Dylan on the front also attracts is fans as it is a familiar face on a large scale on the cover. The contents page is in a two column lay out with a seductive medium shot with the text wrapped around the image.
