Front Cover Photo

Similarly to typical musical magazines, i want to have a main photograph for my front cover. However, i think that the picture is an easy way of telling the audience that the magazine is a musical magazine. So i did some research to find out what photographs are commonly used to show what a musical is. I found these photographs which gave me influence for the photographs i will take.

When looking at these photographs, i realise that a factor which is very important within a theatre photographs, is the lighting. it has a dark background with contrasting people/ characters, which makes them stand out. This is something which i wanted to stick to when i took my photographs. I knew i had a perfect place to take them as i was leading a winter camp with a 'jungle' theme. So i knew people who were on a stage in costume, so i used a friends camera, and got them to pose for photos which i was happy with. Unfortunately, while on the camp the camera broke, so i lost the photographs. 


As i do not have a stage/ really good costumes in my house i knew needed to re-think my idea go the main photographs. so i decided to look at theatre photographs with characters off stage and this is what i found:

i realised that both of these photographs i could realistically take in my house. and i could either photo shop a person out of the background and leave a white background, or add a new background into it.  however, i do not think that they immediately tells an audience that it is a musical magazine. So i thought that i could photoshop a red theatre curtain for the background. i think that it can be seen as un-original, however i think that it does the job of obviously telling the audience what the magazine is going to be without even reading it yet.  I hope to take the photographs one day this week.
